The bitter taste of lemon juice in warm water or unsweetened diluted cranberry juice helps me feel that I’m doing something of great benefit. It’s potency reminds me that I’m making a choice contrary to pleasure for the sake of future reward. It tells me with each hostile sip that I am stronger; I don’t have to give in to sweet temptations. Knowing this gets me through the cup. we don’t like to engage this part of our tongue its uncomfortable, yet when I choose this bitter drink rather than the poison which my sensuality craves, my self control wards off bad behavior, and I’m convinced that suffering really is the road to life.
